Critical surgeries advised for injured camel Chandani at CDRS Malir
Posted on: 24 Sep 2025 Tags:KARACHI (Sept 22): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah received a detailed report from the medical board established at the CDRS Shelter in Malir.
The board examined Chandani, a two-year-old dromedary camel from Shah Pati district, Sukkur, and recommended urgent surgical interventions and intensive care, the report submitted by Secretary Fisheries & Livestock Kazim Jatoi said.
It may be noted that the Sumi, a two-year-old camel has been renamed as Chabdni at the CDRS.
Chandani was admitted on September 19, 2025, with severe injuries.
The board, consisting of veterinary experts Dr. Zulfiqar Haider Otho, Dr. Javed Khoso, Dr. Shalla Hayat, Dr. Muhammad Ali Gopang, and Dr. Muhammad Ali Ayaz, unanimously advised amputation of Chandani’s right hind leg due to loss of sensation and tissue swelling, which risks septicemia. Simultaneously, surgical fixation of her broken jaws is crucial to prevent dehydration, pneumonia, and aspiration caused by feeding difficulties.
In addition to surgery, daily blood tests will monitor Chandani’s condition, including analysis for blood parasites. Immediate blood transfusion is also planned to address severe anemia.
The medical team emphasised the critical condition of Chandani, citing blood parasitic infection, anemia, and dehydration as primary concerns. Stabilizing the camel’s health before surgery remains the top priority.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed the medical team to prioritise Chandani’s stabilisation and ensure all necessary resources and advanced veterinary care are made available immediately. He instructed the Fisheries & Livestock Department to oversee the camel’s treatment closely, provide regular updates, and explore further expert consultations if needed to ensure Chandani’s full recovery.
The CDRS team is closely monitoring Chandani’s progress, aiming for full recovery through dedicated veterinary care.
