KARACHI (Aug 6): Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, presiding over the 2nd Steering Committee meeting of the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC) 2025, emphasised the strategic importance of PIMEC 2025, calling it more than an exhibition - a vital platform to unlock Pakistan’s maritime potential and advance its long-term Blue Economy vision.
The meeting, held at CM House, was attended by provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Saeed Ghani, Zulfikar Shah, Jam Ikram Dharejo, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Commander Karachi Vice Admiral Muhaammad Fasail Abbasi, Pakistan Army, law enforcement agencies, and co-organisers Badar Expo Solutions to review preparations for the mega maritime event scheduled from November 3 to 6 at the Karachi Expo Centre.
In his opening remarks, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah warmly welcomed all participants and highlighted the strategic significance of PIMEC 2025. He described it as more than just an exhibition; it's a crucial platform for unlocking Pakistan’s maritime potential and progressing its long-term Blue Economy vision. “PIMEC 2025 is poised to play a pivotal role in showcasing Pakistan’s maritime and defence capabilities while fostering innovation, partnerships, and regional connectivity,” he said.
Mr Shah acknowledged the Pakistan Navy’s leadership in steering the initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and expressed the Sindh government’s unwavering support for ensuring the event’s success at par with global standards.
Commitment to Blue Economy: Highlighting Sindh’s commitment to maritime development, CM Murad Shah announced several initiatives spearheaded by the provincial government to boost maritime trade and logistics. Among them is the recently launched project, Shahrah-e-Bhutto Extension, to construct a key road connecting Karachi Port Trust terminal to Jam Sadiq Bridge- a major step to streamline cargo movement and improve trade efficiency within and beyond Karachi.
Murad Shah noted that Pakistan’s 1,000-kilometre-long coastline and nearly 290,000 square kilometres of maritime jurisdiction offer immense untapped potential in areas such as shipping, fisheries, shipbuilding, marine resource exploration, and coastal tourism.
“The Blue Economy is not just an economic strategy, it’s a national imperative. PIMEC 2025 is our opportunity to harness this potential through innovation, policy coordination, and international cooperation,” the CM said.
Talking about PIMEC 2025 - A Strategic Maritime showcase, the CM noted the success of the inaugural PIMEC in 2023 and stated that the upcoming edition aims to be even more impactful, attracting participants from local and international industries, academia, and government. He termed the event a cornerstone for advancing Pakistan’s maritime diplomacy, investment landscape, and technological self-reliance.
The chief minister instructed all relevant provincial departments, including Local Government – KMC, the Water Board, law enforcement agencies, district authorities, and traffic police, to make necessary arrangements for the upcoming event, including infrastructure development and city beautification.
Participants at the meeting unanimously pledged full institutional support for the successful execution of PIMEC 2025, recognising its value in promoting Pakistan’s soft image and economic growth.
The Steering Committee discussed key coordination aspects, logistics, security protocols, stakeholder outreach, and exhibition planning to ensure the event is executed smoothly and reflects the highest standards.
“The success of PIMEC 2025 will depend on the seamless collaboration between federal and provincial agencies, the business community, and above all, the people of Karachi,” Chief Minister Murad Shah concluded.
