  • India cannot terminate Indus Waters Treaty: CM Murad Ali Shah
  • Tribute paid to Armed Forces for resolute response

KARACHI (May 16): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that India's reaction to the Pahalgam incident involved provocative rhetoric and the announcement of terminating the Indus Waters Treaty was beyond their mandate, therefore Pakistan “Pakistan responded firmly, making it clear that any attempt to impede water flow would be considered an act of war.

"India's actions laid bare their true intentions," the Chief Minister remarked, pointedly referring to Indian Prime Minister Modi as the ‘Butcher of Gujarat’.

This he said while speaking on the Resolution `Youm-e-Tashakkur’, presented in the assembly by Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, paid rich tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their resolute and effective response during the recent cross-border conflict.

The Sindh Provincial Assembly resoundingly passed a comprehensive resolution paying rich tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their resolute and effective response during the recent cross-border conflict. The unanimous decision underscored the assembly's solidarity with the military and celebrated what was termed a "historic victory" for the nation.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, in an impassioned address to the assembly, meticulously recounted the sequence of events leading up to and during the conflict, emphasising Pakistan's unwavering stance against Indian aggression.

Mr Shah began by referencing the Pahalgam incident and Pakistan's offer of a neutral investigation. "Had India been sincere," he stated, "it would have embraced our offer. However, it appears divine will has destined India for this disgrace."

Detailing the escalating tensions, the CM stated, "On May 7th, India initiated missile strikes on four locations within our borders, tragically targeting civilians and even places of worship. By the evening of the same day, reports emerged of Pakistan Air Force personnel successfully downing Indian aircraft, dismantling India’s arrogance swiftly within hours. Furthermore, eighty-five drones dispatched on May 8th were neutralised. Sindh mourned its first martyr, Mukhtar Leghari from Ghotki, whose father, Eidan Leghari, was also injured in these attacks. Karachi’s Sharafi Goth was also struck by drones, resulting in injuries to a security official."

The chief minister described the ensuing chaotic coverage in Indian media, which falsely claimed widespread destruction in Lahore, Sialkot, and Karachi. "It almost resembled a cartoonish portrayal," he quipped. He noted that despite the confusion, Pakistan had already activated its comprehensive war preparedness protocols outlined in the War Book. The conflict took a significant turn on May 10th, when, as Mr Shah recounted, "I was informed at 4 a.m. that a full-scale war had erupted, with attacks reported at Nur Khan Airbase and Sukkur."

It was during this critical juncture that Pakistan launched Operation `Bunyad-e-Marsous’ at 5:15 a.m., an operation that garnered international attention within a mere three hours. The U.S. Secretary of State, Mr Shah, revealed, contacted Pakistan at 8:15 a.m., urgently requesting a ceasefire.

"Our brave forces precisely targeted and neutralised 26 key Indian strategic sites, including Udhampur Airbase, Northern Command, Pathankot, Sirsa, Bathinda, Ambala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, and numerous missile installations," Chief Minister Shah asserted. He emphasised that India was taken aback by the precision and speed of Pakistan’s counter-offensive. "They were bewildered by the events of those three hours," he stated.

Furthermore, Pakistan’s forces successfully destroyed Israeli drones and downed French-supplied aircraft, according to Mr Shah. He highlighted that despite India’s significant investments in high-tech military equipment from various sources, including France, the U.S, and former Soviet Union stockpiles, they could not overcome Pakistan’s unwavering resolve. "Following this swift and decisive response, a global movement for a ceasefire commenced. Regrettably, even after the ceasefire, a stray Indian missile struck Bohlari, resulting in the martyrdom of five Pakistani soldiers," he added.

Chief Minister Shah solemnly honoured the fallen soldiers and declared the three-hour counterstrike a resounding victory for Pakistan. He called for sustained national unity, suggesting that such solidarity could pave the way for overcoming Pakistan’s other challenges.

Murad Shah also commended the media for its responsible reporting, lauded the youth for their proactive role in Pakistan’s cyber response by successfully targeting several Indian websites, and expressed profound gratitude to allied nations, including China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, for their support. He observed a noticeable shift in the Indian Prime Minister’s demeanour following the conflict and noted that even the U.S. had begun to acknowledge Pakistan’s resilience.

Highlighting diplomatic achievements, Mr. Shah pointed out that India had finally agreed to engage in talks, even on the sensitive issue of Kashmir. "The U.S. President publicly acknowledged that discussions on Kashmir will now take place," he stated.

In his concluding remarks, Chief Minister Shah urged the nation to forever remember all the martyrs who have sacrificed for the country, including former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the visionary behind Pakistan’s nuclear program, and Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, recognising them as national heroes.

The resolution, also specifically acknowledged President Asif Ali Zardari for his steadfast support of the armed forces and commended Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his effective management of the international media narrative during the crisis. "All three branches of our armed forces, their respective chiefs, officers, and every single soldier deserve our deepest gratitude and respect," Mr Shah affirmed, urging all assembly members to unanimously endorse the resolution.

The Sindh Assembly subsequently passed the resolution with complete consensus, marking a moment of collective celebration for the unity, resilience, and valour demonstrated by the Pakistani nation and its esteemed military.
