Karachi (March 24) – To equip youth with globally recognized digital skills, the Sindh government, in collaboration with Google and Tech Valley, has announced more than 30,000 Google Career Certificates scholarships for students of the province’s public universities.

A meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was held on Monday at the Chief Minister’s House, where a memorandum of understanding was signed to formalize this initiative. The meeting was attended by Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah, Chief Minister’s Secretary Raheem Sheikh, Chairman of HEC Sindh Professor Tariq Rafi, Secretary of School Education Zahid Abbasi, Secretary of IT Noor Samoon, Secretary of Universities and Boards Abbas Baloch, vice-chancellors of 30 public universities, Tech Valley Pakistan CEO Umar Farooq, and other relevant officials.

The Chief Minister stated that the purpose of this initiative is to equip students with advanced digital skills in key areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing, IT Automation, and Project Management, enabling them to better capitalize on evolving employment opportunities.

Murad Ali Shah noted that following the success of the 2024 Google Career Certificates Sindh program, where 1,500 students from 10 universities achieved a 100% pass rate, the program’s expansion in 2025 reflects the government’s commitment to digital development and workforce enhancement.

Emphasizing the importance of the program, Murad Ali Shah said this partnership reflects the vision to make Sindh a hub of innovation and skills development. He added that providing over 30,000 scholarships is not just an investment in education but an investment in the future of the youth and the economic progress of the province.

Under the Career Certificates program developed by Google experts, students are offered flexible online learning opportunities, allowing them to earn industry-recognized credentials within three to six months without a traditional degree.

Speaking about the achievements and career growth, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah shared that graduates from the previous batch secured jobs and internships at renowned companies, with salaries ranging from PKR 70,000 to PKR 1.6 million per month. He highlighted the success story of Laila Kumari, a student of the University of Sindh Jamshoro, who completed Google’s Artificial Intelligence course and secured a project internship at Evolution. The Chief Minister added that Google has featured her story, showcasing the real impact of this initiative.

Kyle Gardner, Google’s Lead for Government Affairs and Public Policy, underscored the importance of this initiative, stating that Google is committed to providing individuals with the digital skills essential for success in today’s economy. Through this partnership, students across Sindh will gain access to world-class training that will not only open new career opportunities but also promote economic growth.

Secretary of IT Noor Samoon briefed the Chief Minister, explaining that the 2025 program is designed to promote inclusion and accessibility, ensuring that at least 30% of participants are women to guarantee gender equality. He further stated that the initiative will also focus on reaching underprivileged and resource-poor communities to provide equal educational opportunities. To expand the program, partnerships will be established with Sindh’s 30 public universities. Participants will be trained in nine specialized courses, including Artificial Intelligence, with two new courses on Prompting and Agile added.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the Soft Skills and Career Success Sindh program, introduced last year, will continue, offering students training in CV writing, interview skills, and effective communication to enhance their employment prospects.

Education Minister Sardar Shah said that by providing over 30,000 scholarships, Tech Valley is not only imparting skills but also playing a crucial role in shaping the future and preparing a skilled workforce that will advance Sindh’s digital economy.

In conclusion, the Chief Minister stated that with strong collaboration between the government and industry, this initiative will set a new direction for digital education in Sindh, enabling students to compete in the global digital economy and contribute effectively to the province’s social and economic development.
