Sindh CM urges universities to celebrate Independence Day with national pride

KARACHI (July 31): In a significant meeting held at CM House, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah convened the vice chancellors of 64 universities, comprising 30 public and 34 private institutions, to devise a detailed programme for celebrating Independence Day under the theme of Marqa-e-Haq.
The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of organising educational, cultural, sports, and literary events to foster national pride.
Provincial Ministers Sharjeel Memon, Nasir Shah, Saeed Ghani, Mohammad Bakhsh Mahar, and Zulfiqar Shah, along with Secretary to the Chief Minister M. Raheem Shaikh and Chairman of HEC Sindh, Professor Tariq Rafi, attended the meeting held at CM House on Thursday.
The Chief Minister highlighted the pride the Pakistan Armed Forces have brought to the nation through their valiant efforts, stating, “To amplify the celebrations of the nation’s victory and independence, the government has devised a comprehensive plan.”
The Independence Day festivities are set to commence on August 1. The Chief Minister urged all universities to adorn their campuses and classrooms in a manner that reflects national dignity and to organise related programmes. He also announced that the government would reward any university, institution, shopkeeper, or entity that excels in decoration.
Universities are encouraged to prepare schedules for sports, cultural events, debates, and literary activities, with Mr Shah instructing Secretary University & Boards Abbas Baloch and Chairman of HEC Sindh Tariq Rafi to organise separate and inter-university programmes.
Suggestions from all universities were included in the meeting’s agenda, and it was agreed that a tree plantation initiative would be launched across Sindh to promote environmental sustainability.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon provided updates on planned programmes across various provincial and private institutions. The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to celebrate Independence Day with enthusiasm and dignity.
